scam-2

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning following reports of phone scams targeting residents in the area.

According to authorities, numerous citizens have reported receiving phone calls displaying either “Restricted Caller” or “Clallam County Sheriff’s Office” on the caller ID. The callers claim that the recipients have missed jury duty or have outstanding warrants, and demand payment for fines or bonds. Unfortunately, several individuals have fallen victim to the scam, sending thousands of dollars to the perpetrators.

The scammers employ sophisticated techniques, including “spoofing” phone numbers to make it appear as though they are calling from legitimate law enforcement agencies, when in reality, they could be operating from abroad. These fraudsters utilize aggressive tactics to intimidate individuals into handing over money.

To avoid becoming a victim, officials advise hanging up immediately upon receiving an unsolicited phone call. Individuals uncertain about the legitimacy of a call are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
