PORT ANGELES — In high school baseball action over the weekend, the Port Angeles Roughriders beat Sequim 7-4 on Friday night but lost to Bellevue at Civic Field on Saturday 12-1. With no score in the top of the 3rd and the first 2 Bellevue batters out, Bellevue scored on the next 7 batters for a 9-run inning. The Roughriders walked 5 batters in that inning. USC football signee and Bellevue 1st baseman Will Washer crushed a rare Civic Field homer over the left field fence in the 5th inning. The Wolverines, from the very tough Class 3A Kingco league, proved they are much better than their 6-9 record suggests.

In the Roughriders’ win over Sequim, Rylin Politika and Brayden Martin had great outings on the mound. In both games, Nathan Basden and Alex Angevine were outstanding at the plate. The Roughriders will travel to North Mason tomorrow and host North Mason on Thursday. KONP Newsradio will broadcast the home game on Thursday. There might be a broadcast of tomorrow’s game, and an announcement will be made today if that’s the case.

Sequim lost to Ingraham 6-2 on Saturday and will host Crosspoint today at 4:15.

In soccer action, Kingston beat Port Angeles 3-1. Matthew Miller scored the only Roughrider goal at the 50-minute mark on a corner kick.

Sequim beat North Mason 3-0 on Friday night.

In tennis action today, Olympic is at Port Angeles, and North Kitsap is at Sequim. The first serves will be at 4:00.

In track and field, as expected, Sequim Wolves Freshman high jumper Clare Turella is having a big freshman year. On Saturday, Clare jumped 5’8″ in Puyallup, placing 13th in a group of 40 jumpers. Clare has consistently been jumping at 4’10”. That mark has her ranked #1 in the Olympic League, #3 in the district, and #12 in the state in the Class 2A rankings.
