PORT ANGELES – A high-profile car fire in Port Angeles Sunday night is still under investigation.

Port Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the alley behind 636 E Front Street, between the Midtown Public House and Jalisco’s Restaurant, for a vehicle fire.

Engines from PAFD and were joined by an engine crew from Clallam 2 Fire and Rescue. The vehicle was found to be completely involved in flames and within 20 feet of the buildings. Black smoke from the fire could be seen from all over town.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire without further damage to the surrounding buildings, and Port Angeles City Light responded to the scene to evaluate exposure damage to power lines in the area.

The vehicle was unoccupied and there were no injuries but, strangely, no one was there to claim the vehicle. Since fire investigators were unable to locate the owner, control of the scene was assumed by the PAPD for further investigation.

Police Sgt. Clay Rife told KONP on Monday the investigation into who owned the car and why it was there is ongoing.
