CLALLAM COUNTY – The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 11:30 Thursday morning, Correction Deputies Steve Brooks and Tyler Cortani were enroute to pick up an inmate from Yakima when they came upon a car fire while going over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90.
The driver of the car had just left her son’s home in North Bend and was driving to Oklahoma when her car erupted in flames.
She was able to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the road and escape, but by the time Brooks and Cortani arrived the engine compartment was fully engulfed and spreading to the interior.
The deputies were able to get the woman’s dog out of the car along with the rest of her belongings, but sadly the fire extinguishers were not enough to save the car, which was a total loss.
A State Patrol Trooper arrived shortly after and was able to take over the scene until the fire department arrived.
