PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles City Council member Jim Moran has passed away.

Moran’s wife, Marie, found the 71-year-old dead in bed when she returned to Port Angeles from a trip to visit relatives. He apparently died in his sleep Friday night or Saturday morning.

Moran was elected to the city council in 2017. His term expires in 2021. The city council will appoint a replacement.

Moran was very active in the community. He was a past president of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Port Angeles Senior Center, the Clallam County Historical Society and the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association. Moran was also active with the North Olympic Peninsula Basketball Officials Association serving as the Director of Training. For his work in officiating, he was awarded the prestigious Washington Officials Association Meritorious Service Award.

Funeral services are pending.  Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. Jim and Marie have two adult sons who live in southern King County.
