PORT ANGELES – Two houses were damaged in a fire west of Port Angeles.

Clallam 2 Fire Rescue was called to 2418 Edgewood Drive just before three o’clock yesterday afternoon.

Crews found a house 50 percent engulfed in flames and heavy smoke billowing into the air. They were able to get that fire under control before it fully spread to a neighboring house. That second house caught fire for a short time, but damage was contained to the outside. More than 30 percent of the first house was destroyed in the fire.

No people were hurt in the fire, but one pet was reportedly missing.

The fire forced a closure of Edgewood Drive while crews worked the scene.

The American Red Cross assisted one family, while the other family stayed with other family members.
